Chemo Side Effects: Update

The worst of the chemo side effects are over, but there are still some lingering ones.

Nails

Several of them are starting to lift towards the end of my fingertips. None have fallen off yet. I’m keeping my nails short so I don’t catch them on anything. Right now, they haven’t lifted completely off, which is good.

Several of them look pretty dark/bruised, but the rest look normal. I can tell that the chemo side effects are starting to fade – my nails got kinda thick and strong during it. My normal nails break pretty easily…which is what a few of them are doing now.

Hot Flashes

I get these maybe once a day. Usually at night. For whatever reason, my body just heats up. My face gets warm. And then it quickly goes away! Probably good practice for the hormone blockers I’ll be taking.

Neuropathy

Most of the tingling in the tips of my fingers has gone away. I still have some in my feet, though. The swelling is basically gone…there might be some lingering. I’ve been living in my Ugg boots for the winter, and upon walking around in my Nikes, I promptly got a blister.

When I was at Mayo for the radiation simulation, I did a lot of walking around on campus and by the end of it, my feet were numb. It didn’t hurt, necessarily, just a strange feeling.

Despite having some lingering symptoms, fatigue has gotten much better. My hair is starting to grow in! It’s pretty fuzzy at the moment.
