Chemotherapy,  Treatment

Chemo Eve: #5

I was up early this morning for a blood draw. Only Josh was a little late and then right around the corner, there was a 5-car accident that had just happened. I was about 10 minutes late. But then I waited to get into the room, then another 5 minutes with ice to numb the port area (much better than the lidocaine). Then I have to check back in with the receptionist for the appointment with the oncologist. At this point, it’s probably 8:30/8:45. While I was sitting there, I got a VM from the oncologist’s nurse asking me to let them know if I was planning to come in for my appointment…so then I waited more and finally got in around 10. Phew.

Meanwhile, I had gotten my blood results back. My platelet level is good for chemo! That’s a win. In fact, it’s up from last time. But (of course there’s a but), my potassium and protein levels are low. Eat more protein: can do. For the potassium, I am to take potassium supplements (via prescription) and then get a potassium INFUSION. They couldn’t schedule it while I was there, so I’ll need to arrive earlier tomorrow (at 8 am).

Protein apparently helps with the swelling, but I’m also getting a pill to help with the leg swelling (didn’t know that existed!). Excellent! I thought I was going to have to deal with it until the end.

So, then there’s tomorrow. Round FIVE. I both dread it and am excited about getting it over with! That much closer to surgery. Wish me luck!
