The Port
It’s been a rough few days of recovery. The nurse even told me I have a high pain tolerance and yet I was knocked on my ass for two days. I’m surprised they don’t give you pain meds. They tell you to take Tylenol…sorta works.
Turns out there were TWO incisions for this port placement – one up by my collarbone, kinda makes hard to turn my neck. The other incision, lower, is a bit bigger.
And then I’ve had to wait 48 hours to shower, so I’ve been feeling pretty greasy and gross. Had to maneuver around in the shower to make sure I didn’t get any water into the incisions. It’s hard to get your hair wet when you can’t bend your neck.
Having Lindsay here for the week made things a lot more bearable. It’s hard to hide physical pain, so having someone close to me here let me just do what I needed to do (sleep). On the other hand, a lot of our time was spent driving, or me passed out. Not what I envisioned for her first visit to Minnesota. She didn’t expect anything but it would have been nice to play host and do all the fun Midwest things she’s missing on the coast. 😉
Linds did get to hang out with the kids quite a bit. She also made friends with the dogs – even Roxy, who pretty much hates everybody (except for Josh). Evelyn asked if she could stay for a year. ?
The Mayo called to move the consultations originally scheduled for the 23rd now on Tuesday. No tests or pokes, just talking.
Still not sure when chemo starts. I have the COVID booster and flu shot scheduled for tomorrow. I probably need to heal up before that starts.
I’m trying to take it easy – can’t lift anything over 10 lbs for a week. Not that I have any motivation to. In fact, I believe it’s time for a nap!

Keep resting!
Linds
This is exactly what I was there for – to take care of you! We have lots of time for me to visit Minnesota and do touristy things. Rest and think about planning those after you’re cancer-free. I did get to see where you’re from and hang out with the kids and dogs, see your office and get the hospital tours! So that’s the main thing. And I’ll be back!!

Please, please rest, stay strong and let us know when we can help. We are here, friend – so many of us! <3
